Summary: This academic work aims to reflect on the life and work of José da Silva Lisboa, Viscount of Cairu, Brazilian intellectual who worked in the second half of the 18th and first half of the 19th. For this purpose, the paper will explore the contemporary events that were influenced by the politics and economics writings and conducts adopted by the Brazilian during his life in the proposed period of time for this thesis, 1756 to 1835, corresponding to the period of birth and death of the Brazilian. Through the research of Silva Lisboa’s performance as a man in a position of power influence, his published books will be studied for a better understanding of the real collaborations of this liberal-conservative man for building the political model of Brazilian Empire.
