What types of postgraduate courses are offered?
Postgraduate courses in Brazil are divided into two levels: lato sensu (including specialization and advanced training courses) and stricto sensu (including master's and doctoral courses). Lato sensu courses aim to improve professional training. Master's and doctorate courses aim to provide more advanced professional training. Doctorates, specifically, aim to train researchers and teachers to work at the highest levels of education.

Are postgraduate courses paid or free?
Specialization courses can be paid or free. Master's and doctoral courses at UFES are free because they are directly funded by the federal government. Some postgraduate programs only charge a registration fee during the admission process.

Do the Master's and Doctoral courses require full-time dedication?
Students must have time available to attend classes, carry out laboratory activities, participate in seminars, supervision meetings and prepare their dissertation or thesis. Scholarship holders are required to work full-time, according to the resolutions of the funding agencies that grant the scholarships.

What are the hours in which the courses are taught?
Usually between 08:00 and 17:00 hours. The schedule depends on several factors throughout the course, such as the availability of professors, student demand, availability of physical space, etc., which allows only the semester planning of the timetable.

Are there scholarships? How many?
In general, UFES's Postgraduate Programs have scholarships from CAPES, CNPq, FAPES/ES, and other institutions and companies. Some of these scholarships come from quotas allocated to the Program and others from specific projects. The availability and supply of scholarships may vary depending on the annual budget of the agencies and the execution of projects/agreements. The Programs have internal criteria for the distribution of scholarships, which is normally done by the Academic Board and by a Scholarship Committee, designated by the Board.

Does it offer courses on weekends?
The Master's and Doctoral courses at UFES are offered within the institution's annual academic calendar. Classes and other activities are spread throughout the year, allowing students to engage with a research group where they will develop their thesis or dissertation. This model, which is recommended by CAPES, is incompatible with courses that are concentrated during holiday periods or on weekends.

What is the selection process for admission to the Master's and Doctoral courses?
Most programs operate with annual admissions. Each program has the autonomy to determine the best time to conduct its selection process. Information about requirements, registration dates, exams, available spots, etc., is published through announcements in newspapers and electronic media. It is important to note that the admission rules are different for each course. Therefore, interested candidates should seek this information directly from the programs pages on internet. This should be done well in advance, as some courses conduct the selection in stages. Most programs carry out their selection in the second semester of each year for admission in March of the following year.

Do I need previously to contact a advisor professor?
As mentioned earlier, each program has the autonomy to establish its own admission rules. Therefore, this information should be obtained directly from each program, and if necessary, it will be clearly stated in the announcement.

How can I learn more about postgraduate studies?
Brazil has an agency (CAPES) responsible for managing postgraduate education in the country. Many details are available on CAPES' website (www.capes.gov.br). To learn more about a specific course at UFES, it is recommended to first visit the website of the program offering that course.
