MOST UTILIZED LIBRARY FACILITIES BY THE PROGRAM
Central Library
The Central Library, a supplementary body directly linked to the Rector’s Office, coordinates all technical procedures across Sib/Ufes units necessary for providing information for Ufes’ teaching, research, extension, and administrative activities. Located in a physical space of approximately 5,000 m², the Central Library at the Federal University of Espírito Santo features a robust physical and academic infrastructure. This is the primary library used by PPGHis students. The Central Library holds 189,125 copies and 90,499 book titles, 4,208 copies and 2,952 titles of theses and dissertations. It also has 53 printed periodicals related to history and access to the CAPES Journal Portal. Its facilities include a specialized sector for exchanges with national and international libraries (COMUT); 650 seats for users, individual and group study rooms; a team of 12 librarians and several interns; a computer lab, multimedia collection, screening room, 2 mini-auditoriums, 1 auditorium, and a Special Collections and Rare Works sector (materials available for on-site consultation only).
Journal Portal - Remote Access
The CAPES Journal Portal is a valuable tool for research development, particularly for Stricto Sensu postgraduate courses. Besides access within Sib/Ufes facilities, professors and students can access the CAPES Journal Portal from other Ufes units or remotely through two methods:
- Federated Academic Community (CAFe): Managed by the National Network for Education and Research (RNP), CAFe allows professors and students to authenticate via institutional credentials using their individual logins and passwords.
- Remote Access Service (SAR): Established in late 2008 through a partnership among the Research and Postgraduate Studies Dean's Office (PRPPG), the Data Processing Center (NPD), and the Central Library, SAR enables authentication via proxy server configuration in browsers using institutional credentials.
Electronic Books and Journals (E-books and E-journals)
Users within Ufes campuses can access several digital libraries, including:
- IEEE Digital Library: Includes IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) (since 1983), IEEE-Wiley eBooks Library (1974–2013), and VDE VERLAG Conference Proceedings (since 2005).
- PressDisplay Digital Library: Provides access to 1,700 current newspapers from 92 countries in original formats with text and images, daily updates, and archives up to 90 days. Notable newspapers include Folha de São Paulo, Estado de São Paulo, and Clarín.
- Wiley Digital Library and Cambridge Digital Library: Offer access to various titles from Wiley-Blackwell and Cambridge University Press.
CCHN Sectoral Library
CCHN has a sector library located in the Luíza da Silva Lopes Building, room 108, which is regularly visited by undergraduate and postgraduate students in History and also other courses. The collection consists of approximately 2,000 titles in History and related areas, acquired through funding from Capes, in addition to the printed dissertations defended in the Program. Printed newspapers received by PPGHis are sent to the Ufes Central Library. The library's physical structure consists of an 80 m2 refrigerated room equipped with three computers, two printers, its own telephone extension, a fax machine and internet connection via cable. The space contains a meeting table with 16 chairs, benches, shelves, cabinets, armchairs and a counter for displaying publications from the History Area. It has two employees who ensure its daily operation from 8am to 8pm.
Education Sectoral Library
Founded in 1994, the Education Sectoral Library serves all Ufes teaching degree programs and postgraduate courses. Its collection includes 4,100 titles, 8,060 copies, and 252 periodical titles.
Literature Sectoral Library
The Literature Sectoral Library serves all undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Literature and Humanities. It houses 6,000 copies in Brazilian Literature, Literary Theory, Foreign Literatures, Comparative Literature, Philosophy, Arts, Communication, History, Anthropology, and Psychoanalysis.
PPGHis Digital Library
The PPGHis program has created a Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, providing full access to its content on the History Department's webpage.
Ufes Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD/Ufes)
Established in 2006, the Ufes Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations offers full access to theses and dissertations defended in Ufes Stricto Sensu postgraduate programs. Integrated with the National BDTD maintained by IBICT, this initiative complies with CAPES Ordinance No. 13 of February 15, 2006, which mandates electronic and printed submission of theses and dissertations for online availability.
