Acknowledgment of university degree

To comply with the provisions of Article 1 of Ordinance No. 099, dated 12/21/2005, postgraduate programs must report the number of master's and doctoral diplomas awarded by foreign Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and recognized in the previous year, according to § 3 of Article 48 of Law No. 9,394, dated December 20, 1996.

  • Number of master's diplomas awarded by foreign HEIs recognized in 2012 = 1
  • Number of doctoral diplomas awarded by foreign HEIs recognized in 2012 = 0

The recognition process for master's and doctoral diplomas obtained abroad must comply with the specifications outlined in Resolution 35/2004 of the UFES Teaching and Research Council.

The documentation required to initiate the process should be organized in the following order:

  1. Application form completed as per Annex I of Resolution 35/2004
  2. Authenticated copy of the undergraduate diploma (front and back)
  3. Authenticated copy of the postgraduate diploma to be recognized (front and back). The authenticity of the diploma must be certified by the Brazilian consular authority where it was issued.
  4. Authenticated copy of the sworn translation of the diploma to be recognized
  5. Authenticated copy of the academic transcript for the courses or subjects taken during postgraduate studies that are required to obtain the title to be recognized
  6. Declaration and proof of the applicant’s effective time of residence in the country where the course was completed. Copies of the passport must be clear and without alterations.
  7. Authenticated copy of the minutes of the defense of the dissertation or thesis, indicating the members of the examination committee and the result of the evaluation
  8. Document from the foreign institution where the course was conducted, outlining the course characteristics, selection procedures, and deadlines and requirements for the defense of the dissertation or thesis
  9. Authenticated copy of the proof of receipt of a scholarship from a funding agency (Capes, CNPq, Fapes, etc.), if applicable
  10. Syllabi of the courses taken or other activities performed that contributed to the acquisition of credits required for the completion of the course
  11. One copy of the dissertation or thesis
  12. Original payment slip for the diploma recognition fee

Payment of the fee:

a) Amount: R$ 1,250.00 for master's degrees and R$ 2,000.00 for doctoral degrees (Resolution 21/2012 CUn / UFES).

b) To print the payment slip, visit the website: http://www.prograd.ufes.br/diplomas/ies_estrangeira.htm. In the middle of the page, click on "solicitação de Boleto Bancário" (request bank slip). On the new page, click on "fazer solicitação" (make request). Follow the instructions for filling out and printing the GRU.

Note: The process should only be initiated once all documentation is complete. The initial evaluation of the merit for recognizing the titles (master's and doctoral) is the responsibility of the Graduate Program Collegiate for programs with the same area and level already recognized by CAPES and the National Education Council.
