Summary: This study analyzes Ibn Baah’s Rilah as a historical source for understanding representations of the Bild al Sdn in medieval Islam. The central problem lies in examining how this space was discursively constructed as liminal, located at the geographical, moral, and cosmological boundaries of the imagined Islamic world, and which narrative operators sustain this representation. The hypothesis advanced is that Ibn Baah, guided by a Mlik theological-legal repertoire and by a consolidated Arab-Islamic geographical tradition, produces the Bild al Sdn as an antithesis of himself and his community, with Islam functioning as a bond of integration and hierarchization. The main concepts mobilized are alterity, representation, discursive tradition, orthodoxy, the Islamization of Africa, and the Africanization of Islam, as well as the dichotomy between Bn and Sdn as a fundamental discursive operator. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative discourse analysis. The investigation demonstrates that recurring elements in the narrative, such as climatic hostility, bodily instability, dietary inadequacy, female nudity, physical discomfort, and, at its limit, cannibalism, function not merely as observations but as narrative devices.
