Summary: This dissertation analyzes the process of identity construction in the Swamp Thing Saga, written by Alan Moore in 1984, with an emphasis on the first five chapters under his authorship. The objective is to understand how the Swamp Thing positions itself as a liminal creature, questioning fixed categories of identity. Drawing on authors such as Thierry Groensteen, this study combines critical reading and content analysis, examining both the narrative aspects and the visual elements of the comics to understand how the aesthetic construction of the work dialogues with its central themes. Throughout the analysis, the study explores how the work breaks with the traditional approach that portrayed the Swamp Thing as a creature seeking a cure, revealing it as a vegetal entity that believes itself to be human. This revelation triggers an identity crisis that permeates the work, presenting the Swamp Thing as a figure without a fixed essence, defined by difference. Finally, it discusses the Swamp Thing as an embodiment of radical otherness, challenging the boundaries between nature and humanity.
