Summary: The main objective of this thesis is to understand the representations about the notions of crises present in the journal Cadernos do Nosso Tempo, seeking to understand the relationships that the intellectual Hélio Jaguaribe Gomes de Mattos, creator of the referred journal, established between the emergence of these crises and the field of the policy which he was a witness and subject of action. An engaged intellectual, Jaguaribe founded two main institutes for thinking and acting in the Brazil of his time, in this case the Brazilian Institute of Economics, Sociology and Politics (IBESP) and the Higher Institute of Brazilian Studies (ISEB), in addition to having organized a magazine called Cadernos do Nosso Tempo (CNT), which remained in circulation for 4 years (1953 and 1956). Appropriating the magazine as a cultural practice and making writing an expression of politics and thought, Jaguaribe sought to spread the idea that Brazil in his time was experiencing “times of crisis”, the result of the collapse of political ideas and the antinomy of liberalism- socialism; individual-society. As a source of research, we tried to compare the magazine Cadernos do Nosso Tempo, as understood by Tânia de Luca, who guides us about the importance of considering all the historicity contained in this vehicle of information, from the conceptualization of the term to the materiality of the source, with with a view to understanding the statements present in the journals. In the theoretical field, we base our research from a historical-cultural perspective, having as main formulations the strength of representations, understood by Roger Chartier (1990; 1992) as a set of symbolic orders. Furthermore, in dialogue with Pierre Bourdieu (1989; 2002), we move towards understanding the concept of political field/intellectual field. In summary, our research is anchored in the tradition of French intellectual history, and as the main hypothesis of this work, we understand that Hélio Jaguaribe circulated the idea of “times of crisis” as a modus operandi of his action as an intellectual at the service of the nation.
