Summary: The purpose of this research is to discuss the passage of the Spanish flu pandemic in Espírito Santo, which took place between September 1918 and March 1919. The methodology used was Historical Demography, regardingthe handling of documents of burial. Thehistoriographical comparison with the epidemic outbreak of influenza in other locations of the national territory, the evidentiary paradigm and the statistical microanalysis were used as auxiliary methods. To enter this scope, until then practically unheard of in the local academy, it was initially necessary to develop an introductory study on how epidemics and pandemics were processed, with a report of the main influenza pandemics, followed by an overview of how the influenza pandemic Spanish language hasdeveloped in the world and in Brazil. In order to better understand the events of the pandemic in the local territory, we proceeded with a study on how the State of Espírito Santo was at the time of the arrival of the Spanish flu epidemic in relation to political and socioeconomic aspects and a brief account of the State's health service between 1908 to 1918. Then we get to the focus of the thesis, the epidemic in Espírito Santo, starting with its arrival and dissemination, ending the fourth chapter with the actions of the State and society towards the Spanish epidemic. Continuing, we expose reports collected in newspapers of the time and correspondence from the State Government of the passage of the epidemic in some municipalities of the State, followed bythe prevention measures taken and the treatments prescribed and used for the flu. Subsequently, efforts are made to survey the painful statistics of deaths, in an attempt to review the already published data on mortality in Espírito Santo, ending with testimonies of flu survivors and family memories.
