Summary: Studies about captive families in Brazil have gained prominence in latest decades, revealing social and strategic meanings those unions. The interest by the subject is recurrent, since the territorial scope of Brazil allows many studies to develop about the subject. With the use of documentary and ecclesiastical documents it is possible to diagnose the presence of captive families in many localities. Espírito Santo, a small province with little prominence in the national scenario, presents a profound diversity in the composition of its slavery: in Vitoria the captive Creole population prevailed, while in the South, agroexportadora, there were large number of Africans. When speaking about this region, however, the studies are summarized the locality of Cachoeiro, in Vale do Rio Itapemirim. This work was intended to give visibility to Itapemirim region, located at the mouth of this river, which was formed by a large number of captives, but never had its slavery properly studied. Thus, we tried to identify the captive families of the region and the importance of the endogenous reproduction for the reproduction of the slave society.
