Summary: Demetrius of Phalerum is known for his roles as a politician, philosopher, rhetorician, and legislator in ancient Greece. His impact during the Hellenistic era, particularly in Athens and Alexandria, attracted the interest of authors like Diogenes Laertius and Plutarch. This master's research aims to examine how Demetrius, upon moving to Alexandria and entering the court of Ptolemy I Soter, contributed to the transplantation of Athenian cultural traits in the city. We emphasize that Demetrius' role in the political and cultural transformation of Alexandria was more significant than previously thought, as he not only influenced local institutions but also shaped the city's spatial and cultural character, promoting Greek heritage. His migration did not signify a loss of cultural identity but rather a transfer of Hellenic and Athenian culture to Alexandria, strengthening Ptolemy I's political and cultural agenda and propelling the city's rise as a political and cultural center in Egypt. For this, we employed the Categorical Analysis Technique, as presented in Laurence Bardin's Content Analysis. As theoretical tools, we utilized the concepts of culture transplant by Garrett Jones (2023), symbolic power by Pierre Bourdieu (1992), representation by Roger Chartier (1990), and city by José D’Assunção Barros (2007).
